If you are intending to scrimp, do so on frivolities. Stop buying flowered, scented toilet paper. It costs more and pollutes worse. Plain white is the best. Resist the temptation to indulge in expensive cosmetic items which promise to color your hair, whiten your teeth or smooth out wrinkles. My grandmother put simplest cold cream on her face every night. When she died at 93, she had one wrinkle. Whitening teeth? Djever hear of hydrogen peroxide? Color your hair? Try leaving it as is for a while. It strengthens the follicles.
Make a point of using some of the windfall you will receive early in 2009 to improve your surroundings. Take a chance. Buy that dream
house you have always wanted. Real estate is cheaper than ever this year. You can benefit from modest prices now. In a year when mortgages are scarce, you will have the cash you need to prove your worth at even the most recalcitrant lenders.
